For those making the trip to Ireland in late August, National Heritage Week is the perfect opportunity to discover some of hidden gems within the country’s heartland and is a great way of bringing heritage to life by showcasing Ireland’s nature and history.

It is estimated that as many as 1,700 events take place over the course of the week, at locations throughout Ireland with many of them free of charge. As many as 400 private historic homes are being opened for the first time to the public during Heritage Week. Every year during Heritage Week, there are a number of colourful competitions on the website. This is an opportunity to test your knowledge about Ireland’s heritage or submit some photos you think capture the spirit of what makes a place so distinctly Irish.
