The Burren Tolkien Festival celebrates the unique beauty of the Burren in County Clare and its influence on the great novelist JRR Tolkien.
The festival takes place between the 26th June and the 3rd July 2015, and allows those enjoying a vacation in Ireland to explore the rugged landscape and follow in Tolkien’s footprints in the hope of uncovering the mystical world of Middle Earth.
J.R.R. Tolkien is world renowned for his epic novel entitled Lord of the Rings and it is suggested that eerie beauty of the Burren area may have been a considerable influence on his work.
A magical cave known as Poll na gColm (pronounced ‘Pole na Gollum’) which forms part of this untamed, rugged rural landscape, in addition to various elements of Irish mythology, may have provided inspiration for Middle Earth in Tolkien’s graphic fantasy novels .
Throughout the festival there will be various workshops, lectures, contests along with good medieval fun. There will also be outing to Poll na gColm for those who wish to go caving in addition to treasure hunts, contests plus much, much more!
