Following a nationwide poll, Cork came out tops and is set to be the first Irish county to get its very own version of the legendary game Monopoly.
The popular family board game made by Winning Moves under the game license from Hasbro will custom-make a Cork version of the game to include some of the much loved landmark and tourist attractions from around the county and often frequented by locals and the many visitors attracted to Cork on their vacation in Ireland.
Popular landmarks thought to feature on the new Cork monopoly include; Blarney Castle, Cobh’s Heritage Centre, Bantry Square, Cork City Gaol, Shandon Bells and Ireland’s tallest building the Elysian. However the public vote organised by Winning Moves will decide what makes it on to the board – and voting ends today!!!
Although the spirit, shape, rules and playing pieces of the Cork customised edition will not be changed, it is expected that there will be other twists, including the inclusion of Cork themed ‘Community Chest’ and ‘Chance’.
The game it is hoped will be on the shelves by October 2012 and we look forward to seeing which of the wonderful Cork landmarks and areas make the cut including Fitzgerald Park, Grand Parade or the English Market, especially those eager to purchase prime houses and hotels near Rochestown or Douglas areas on the Monopoly board!
