This weekend the best in TV, Film and Music was celebrated across the globe, with the Grammys take place in Los Angeles, the BAFTAs in London and the International Emmy Awards for Kids taking place in New York.
It seemed whatever the weather the stars were out in force, attending the glitzy awards bashes in their bid to win a much coveted award within their nominated category. However no win would be more exciting over this weekend than the winning an award at the first ever International Emmy Awards for Kids, and Dublin-based animated studios Boulder Media did just that.
Nominated in the International Kids Animation category, “The Amazing World of Gumball”, a cartoon that follows the misadventures of a 12 year old cat and his family triumphed on the night taking the accolade of Best Kid Animation at the first International Emmy Awards for Kids, which it can add to its two BAFTA awards for animation and writing received last year.
Narrowly missing out in the Kids Preschool category at the International Emmy Awards for Kids were fellow Irish nominees, Dublin based Brown Bag Films, who were short-listed for the Octonauts, a cartoon that follows the adventures of a group of animals that live under water.
More celebration for Ireland, as away from the International Emmys and in a rain soaked London – adding to his award tally in recognition for his portrayal of Lincoln in the film by the same name, Wicklow based Daniel Day Lewis won the Best Leading Actor award at the BAFTAs, which he can add to his Best Actor Award win at the Golden Globes earlier this year and firmly placing him as a favourite to win the much sought after Best Actor Oscar at next month’s ceremony.
