The long list of books that have been nominated for the 2013 International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award was announced today. Nominated by libraries in 120 cities, within 44 countries and in 19 different languages, there are 154 books making the long list this year, making it the most International of Awards.
Organised by Dublin City Public Libraries, the €100,000 literary prize for 2013, was launched by the Lord Mayor of Dublin at the Dublin City Library and Archive, revealing that the Long list for the 2013 Award includes 8 Irish writers, 43 American, 22 British, 12 Canadian and 42 books translated in English from 19 other languages!
The highest number of Irish Authors to be nominated since the IMPAC Dublin Literary Awards inception in 1996, the 8 Irish titles that are in line for the world’s most valuable annual prize fund for a single work of fiction published in English are: On Canaan’s Side by Sebastian Barry, City of Bohane by Kevin Barry, The Absolutist by John Boyne, The Dulang Washer by Paul Callan, Long Time, No See but Dermot Healy, The Cold Eye of Heaven by Christine Dwyer Hickey, Twice Born by Margaret Mazzantini and Double Talk by Patrick Warner.
The shortlist will be announced on 9th April 2013 and the winner on 6th June 2013, so with 154 books making the long list – that’s a lot of literature for the 5 international judges to get through!
