Ireland Ladies Rugby Team is currently riding high in the Women’s RBS 6 Nations competition and revelling in their qualification for next year’s World Cup in Paris.
Following their consecutive back to back wins in the competition, Ireland beat Wales, with a close score of Wales 10 – Ireland 12, historically beat England with an impressive score lines Ireland 25 – England 0, and this weekend they comfortably beat Scotland with a score of Scotland 3 – Ireland 30, to secure the Triple Crown title in this year’s competition. With only 2 games left against France and Italy, there is already speculation that this formidable team could make it a momentous Grand Slam this year!
If the Triple Crown win was the icing on the cake, then the news that Ireland had secured qualification to the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Paris 2014 was the cherry. As automatic qualification to next year’s World Cup was not guaranteed following the resounding success of the acclaimed 2010 tournament in England, and instead teams from Europe, Africa, Asia and Oceania all had to participate in the qualification process for WRWC 2014.
With plenty to be smiling about, and just 2 games left in this year’s Women’s RBS 6 Nations Competition, Ireland’s will take place in March, the first on Friday 8th March when Ireland meet France at Ashbourne RFC in County Meath, kick off at 7:30pm, and the second on St Patricks Day – Sunday 17th March, when Ireland take on Italy in Milan, kick off 2:30pm.
