This summer is shaping up to be a real thriller for Irish Sport as we have plenty to look forward to! We have the Olympics just across the water as well a place for Euro 2012 secured.
The European football championship will be hosted in Ukraine and Poland. Ireland secured a place at Euro 2012 last year and have been placed in Group C along with Spain, Italy and Croatia. The first match of the event takes place on June 8th as Poland takes on Greece at the National Stadium in Warsaw. Ireland’s first match is on Sunday June 10th, as Ireland takes on Croatia at the Stadion Miejski which is located in Poznań. The championship will finish up on July 1st where after weeks of matches, a winner will be determined.
All eyes will then divert to London as they gear up to host the 2012 Olympics which takes place from July 27th to August 12th, 2012. Ireland has athletes in all of the main areas including athletics, boxing, judo, shooting, canoeing, cycling, equestrian, swimming, gymnastics, sailing and badminton. Due to the location of the Olympics, it is predicated that a record number of Irish fans will travel to support the athletes.
