Yesterday Kilkenny were crowned the All-Ireland Gaelic Hurling Champions after a thrilling game against Galway. At around 3.30pm Irish time on Sunday the 30th of September, the crowd roared as it became official that Kilkenny were the holders of the Liam MacCarthy cup yet again.
It was a special day in particular for Kilkeny hurling legend Henry Shefflin as he made hurling history. He is now the only man to have won nine All Ireland medals. An incredible record as he is dubbed the ‘greatest hurler of all time’.
The All-Ireland Gaeilic Hurling and Football finals are a huge cause for celebration here in Ireland as festivities will continue well into the week. It is the perfect time to build your Ireland vacations around. It is tough to get tickets for the finals themselves but one could attend one of the earlier fixtures to get a taste of why our beautiful game is so important to us!
