Irish golf star, Rory McIlroy has made the short list of 12 nominees’, all in with a chance of winning the much coveted BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award for 2012.
The awards, which will take place on 16th December, will be voted for by the public and McIlroy, who has made the short-list for a second year running is the only non-Olympian on the short list!
McIlroy has had a fantastic 2012, finishing in the top 10 a staggering 15 times, taking 5 titles – the fifth being in Dubai, and was named the world’s number 1 for the first time. Add this to his team success for Europe in the Ryder Cup and that he has become the youngest multiple major champion since Seve Ballesteros in 1980 by winning the PGA Championship and is likely to be named the Player of the Year by the US PGA Tour as a result of this success it really has been one brilliant year.
A fantastic achievement for the 23 year old from County Down, Ireland, 2012 has been a year of triumph and winning the BBC Personality of the Year Award surely would be the icing on the cake!
