Ireland is back on the world tourism map with over 7.25 visitors in 2014.

In 2014 an estimated 1.2 million visitors from the United States took a vacation in Ireland. This figure was a 15 percent from 2013 and it set a new record according to Tourism Ireland, who additionally plan to build on those numbers in 2015 with new plans to further promote the Emerald Isle.

Inchydoney in West Cork wins “Best Beach” title for the second year running

Inchydoney Beach, which is located in Clonakilty in the heart of West Cork has just been voted “Best Beach in Ireland” by Tripadvisor in their 2015 Travellers Choice Awards. The County Cork beach scooped the top position with one reviewer commenting “to walk along the beach in the warm Irish sunshine isn’t far short of wonderful”.

A bird’s eye view of Cork City

Major landmarks sign up for global greening in the largest St. Patrick’s Day Festival

2014’s St Patrick’s Festival attracted a record 7.74 million visitors, resulting in an additional nine percent of visitors taking a trip to Ireland. The rise in visitors for the 2014 festival was due to the €65,000 investment it received from Tourism Ireland which resulted in the “greening” of over 120 landmarks. This significant investment generated lots of positive international media coverage for Ireland, which was thought to be worth at least €10 million.

Tourism Ireland to sponsor Irish cricketers at 2015 World Cup

With the 2015 ICC World Cup fast approaching, it was announced by Tourism Ireland that they will be acting as the main shirt sponsor of the Ireland cricket team for the tournament, which commences on the 14th February. This unique partnership was announced by Minister for Transport, Tourism & Sport, Paschal Donohoe TD, at the cricket grounds in Trinity College Pavilion in Dublin, with Minister of State with responsibility for Sport and Domestic Tourism, Michael Ring TD, also in attendance.

Failte Ireland launch Wild Atlantic Way App

This week Fáilte Ireland released drone footage of the 2,500km Wild Atlantic Way Route, taken by filmmaker Robert Fogarty.  In addition to this Failte Ireland has also released an app which is now available to download.  The app includes everything from places to see along this now famous route, everywhere from County Donegal to County Cork as well as where to sleep and where to eat. Also featured and showcased are where and when the best festivals and local events are taking place.
