Ireland qualify for Eurovision Song Contest

It was the first of the Eurovision Song Contest Semi Finals in Azerbaijan last night and Ireland’s entry Jedward qualified singing the catchy up-tempo number Waterline.

An evening of suspense and drama, Ireland was the last act to be announced in last night’s televised Semi Final and saw excitable Dublin twin’s John and Edward put forward to the Grand Final with acts from Russia, Romania, Cyprus, Albania, Hungary, Iceland, Denmark, Greece and Moldova. All of whom join those that automatically qualify from The UK, France, Spain, Germany, and Italy.

Last night’s event was an insight into what to expect at the Grand Final, and Azerbaijan’s Crystal Hall, which had only been completed a month before, looked amazing especially the spectacular light show of around three dozen high-powered spotlights that were projecting a latticework of light high into the sky over the hall.

The second Semi Final takes place tomorrow on Thursday 24th May and we will see the remaining 18 European countries battle it out for the 10 remaining places and to join Ireland and the other Eurovision finalist compete in the Grand Final, which takes place this Saturday 26th May.

Good Luck Ireland and Good Luck Jedward
