Maths Week in Ireland – How video games are used to teach Maths

Events will be taking place up and down the country until next Saturday as part of Maths Week in Ireland. One of today’s highlights is a lecture by Keith Devlin from Stanford University, at 6.30pm which takes place at the TCD’s Science Gallery. This talk is free and open to the public. Professor Devlin is well known for his innovating math teaching lessons which includes using video games to teach his students. His methods to date have been extremely successful and has led to the founding of InnerTube Games which is an online service offering games that are designed to help students understand the principles of maths in a more exciting format in comparison to traditional methods.

At 7pm, Waterford’s Institute of Technology will be hosting a a family show with Bubbiz the Mathematical Clown – who aims to make maths fun for kids of all ages!
