Cork Rebel Week Gathering Pace

Just a week away and taking place from 14th – 20th October, the official Cork Gathering 2013 flagship event, Cork Rebel Week will begin.

A celebration of “all things Cork” and with a packed programme of events taking place in Cork City and County, the official Opening Ceremony will take place on Monday 14th October at CIT (Cork Institute of Technology) giving all Corkonians an opportunity to meet Cork heroes including Rob Heffernan, the Cork Hurlers and the Munster Rugby stars.

Other highlights of the week’s events include; on Wednesday 16th October, Cork Independent Day will take place, and for those entering the county boarders between 8 and 10 am be warned checkpoints will require visas! So be sure you are carrying your Cork Rebel Passport!! Cork Independence Day will include a celebration of the great Irish military leader, Michael Collins birthday – and with Collins Barracks opening its doors, those attending can enjoy a number of activities throughout the day.

On Thursday 17th October, the Cork Global Economic Forum will take centre stage, and delegates from around the world will discuss and debate the generation of further economic growth in the Cork region.

Much loved TV personality and Bandon native Graham Norton will return to his hometown on Friday 18th October, to officially open the promenade walk named after him, and in the City, Naval Ships will be arriving to the Port of Cork in anticipation of the Naval festival.

On Saturday 19th October as well as the naval festival, the Marching bands will make their way through the streets of Cork lead by World Champion Rob Heffernan and YouTube sensations, Seo Linn will headline Ireland’s first ever ‘sail-in’ concert at the Port of Cork!

Finally for those that are able following the festivities and entertainment of Saturday, Olympic medallist Sonia O’Sullivan will start the Rebel 10km run on Sunday 20th October, which shall be followed by the County Club Hurling Final and closing ceremony of Cork Rebel Week!

    My brother has booked his tickets with Lufthansa and will be attending this Cork festival next week. I am super jealous :(. Lufthansa serves delicious food and he has been talking about that too. I am seeing if there is any way that i can tag along with him. Keeping my fingers crossed for now.
