Kilkenny clinches Irish Tidy Town award

Kilkenny was named Ireland’s tidiest town after pipping almost 849 other contenders to the revered title. Kilkenny City, also known as the ” marble city”, was announced as the winner for the first time since 1985 at The Helix in Dublin.

The award for the tidiest village went to Clonegal in County Carlow while Kilrush in County Clare claiming the award for the tidiest small town.  Westport in County Mayo, located on the Atlantic Ocean coastline, scooped the honour for the largest tidiest town.

The annual competition has been proudly supported by SuperValu for the past 23 years with interest growing year on year with in excess of 800 entries received each year over the past four years. The overall competition winner receives a €10,000 and a trophy with €5,000 going to the winners in each category. Regional winners also receive €2000.
