Waterford Winterval – Ireland’s Christmas Festival

The enchanting winter markets synonymous throughout continental Europe are the inspiration behind Waterford Winterval, Ireland’s Christmas Festival. The festival aims to bring together the festive sights, sounds and Yuletide charms of Ireland’s South-East region while also providing the whole family and visitors on a Christmas vacation in Ireland with lots and lots of fun!

The month long event in Waterford City, 21st November to 23rd December 2014, will be one of the largest festive celebrations of the Christmas season in Ireland with in excess of 25 separate events and activities with the added bonus that 17 of these events are free of charge.

Eclectic programme planned for the Cork Film Festival

Sneem International Folklore Storytelling Festival

Years ago, throughout Irelands rich cultural history, the ancient art of storytelling was a main feature of Irish society with the seancaithe and scéalaí, who were known as the Tradition Bearers and Storytellers respectively, passing down the old stories to new generations in various intimate cosy indoor and outdoor settings. Throughout the long held traditions of ancient Irish storytelling, the colder months of autumn and winter were the times of year when storytelling was most popular with November traditionally being known as the month of choice for one of Irelands oldest forms of entertainment.

The success of the recent Guinness Cork Jazz Festival

The renowned Guinness Cork Jazz Festival recently took place on the October Bank Holiday Weekend in Cork. The globally renowned festival saw over 1000 jazz musicians who made the trip to Ireland to take part in over 400 music sessions at 70 venues across Cork city. The festival is found to have generated over €20 million in revenue to the local economy over the weekend.

Condé Nast Traveler Magazine names four Irish hotels in their Top 10 European Resorts

Condé Nast Traveler magazine has named four of Ireland’s prestigious hotels amongst their Top 10 European Resorts.

The hotels featured include Sheen Falls in County Kerry which topped the poll at number 1, Ashford Castle in County Mayo reached second place, Kildare Hotel at the K Club in County Kildare fourth place and Adare Manor in County Limerick reaching tenth place.
