Waterford City celebrates its 1100th birthday

Every summer Ireland hosts numerous festivals up and down the country but 2014 undoubtedly belongs to the City of Waterford. The city will celebrate 1100 years since its foundation by the Vikings in 914 AD and will be celebrating all year round holding many festivals. Ireland the destination of choice for top celebrities

It is quite common for many Irish people to spend their summers moaning about the weather, usually about the rain, and giving out about the inevitable sun burn that is inflicted should they be exposed to the sunshine even for just an afternoon.

Friends post selfies of themselves lapping up the sun in the likes of Bondi Beach, Phuket and Miami are flicked through with deep envy as the countdown begins for our own escape to paradise. The pros and cons of a dip in the Atlantic during an a vacation in Ireland may be considered but the perishing swim is incomparable to Beyonce’s feeds straight from her St. Bart’s side yacht.

New campaign set to grow Irish tourism

The results of TripAdvisor’s bi-annual “TripBarometer” survey has revealed that a trip to Ireland ranks among the top three worldwide destinations Americans would like to travel to before they themselves kick the proverbial bucket.

Battle of Clontarf celebrated with two Irish stamps

The Irish postal service, An Post, is planning to signify the celebrations to mark the 1,000th anniversary of the historic Battle of Clontarf by issuing a set of two stamps which will soon become coveted collectors items.

The two stamps have been created by the talented graphic designer, Ger Garland, and are an celebration of Ireland’s rich Viking heritage. The Battle of Clontarf saw the forces of Brian Boru, High King of Ireland, emerge victorious against an Irish-Viking alliance on Ireland’s eastern seaboard.
