A big day in Irish sport took place on Sunday the 8th of September when the All Ireland Hurling Final 2013 took place. County Cork took on County Clare in a thrilling game full of shocks and excitement – which ended in a tie. In hurling, if the game ends in a tie a re-match is called. Union Hall Smoked Fish opens its factory doors for one day only

Whilst summer may be officially over, the fine weather is reason enough to forget this minor fact and head down to the nearest scenic coastal area for a seaside retreat or short break. Today the lovely coastal region of West Cork and the town Skibbereen and surrounding areas is abuzz with the start of the Taste of West Cork Festival. Now in its 10th year the festival celebrates all great food and homegrown produce of region and during the week Skibbereen and the surrounding towns of Union Hall and Baltimore etc will become a mecca for food lovers with a host of food related events, from food markets and demonstrations, cookery competitions to special dinners, brunches and banquets. The passing of Seamus Heaney, one of Ireland best loved poets

It is with much shock and sadness that we report that one of our greatest literary poets, Seamus Heaney, has passed away in a Dublin hospital following a short illness aged 74. Beloved by many he is regarded as the greatest poet to come out of Ireland since the legendary W.B Yeats. While most of us here in Ireland are familiar with his poetry which has been a regular part of the Junior and Leaving cert school syllabi, his influence on literature spread far and wide outside of our humble shores. Ballyliffin Golf Club to host PGA Tour Event in 2014?

Strong rumours are circulating today that negotiations are at an advanced stage between Ballyliffin Golf Club, the Irish tourist board and the PGA Tour regarding staging a regular season PGA Tour event in Summer 2014.

It is believed the event, which would be held in June 2014 (in the run up to the British Open) will have a prize fund of US$8 million.

It is also believed the event has already received the full commitment of top players Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Rory McIlroy. McIlroy is reputed to be a huge fan of Ballyliffin and participated in an Oakley photoshoot on the golf links back in 2011.

Following the successful staging of the British Open at Royal Portrush in this will be another great boost for Golf in Ireland and testament to the success enjoyed by Irish golfers on both sides of the atlantic.
