The festival which runs over six days from 24th-29th October, will have over 100 music acts playing live in various local venues from pubs to shopping centres, throughout the bustling West of Ireland town Sligo.

Irish journalist and writer Maeve Binchy dies at 72

Sad news. Following a short illness top Irish journalist and writer, Maeve Binchy has died at the age of 72. Binchy has sold over 40 million books and her stories have been translated into 42 different languages. Arguably her most famous work was made into a book, ‘Circle of Friends’ in 1995. Good news for Dublin bike hire scheme

The Dublin bike scheme was first introduced to the city 3 years ago and around 70,000 subscribers have signed up to use the bikes since it began operating in September 2009, making it one of the most successful city bike rental schemes in Europe.

A self-service bike rental system that is open to everyone from 14 years of age, it enables locals to commute between home and work, tourists on vacation in Ireland to travel through the city centre and offers everybody the option to get out and about to enjoy Dublin city at their own leisure.

National Ploughing Championships

Known nationwide as Ireland’s farming festival celebrating Irelands rich agricultural heritage, the National Ploughing Championships originated in 1931 as a ploughing match to settle an argument between two farming friends on which county had the best ploughmen. Today it has grown from such humble beginnings to become one of Europes largest (if not the largest) outdoor exhibition and agricultural trade show, annually attracting up to 1,100 exhibitors and over 190,000 visitors.
