The West Cork Chamber Music Festival is set to celebrate its 20th anniversary this year with an eight day festival which is set to run from the 26th June until the 4th July. The festival is set to take place in the heart of West Cork in Bantry amongst the scenic Bantry House & Gardens as well as St. Brendan’s Church.
Now in its 20th year the festival is set to showcase the very best classical musicians in the chamber music repertoire from all over the world. The festival is set to showcase 37 separate concerts, at which 101 different works will be performed. Some of the works set to be featured include Schubert’s Trout, Beethoven’s Archduke Trip, Brahm’s Piano Quintet, Mendelssohn’s Octet, Mozart’s Clarinet Quintet as well as Bach’s Violin Concertos.
The 8 day programme will be home to some of the world’s most famous classical musicians including Barry Douglas, Alina Ibragimova, Brett Dean, Vivane Hagner, Philippe Bernold, Cremona Quartet, Peter Whelan, Vanbrugh Quartet, Borodin Quartet, Signum Quartet and Benyounes Quartet. World-renowned sopranos Claire Booth and Maria Keohane as well as tenor James Gilchrist are also set to perform during the festival.
An international affair, the 35 solo artists come from 14 countries. The five professional string quartets around whom the festival is built come from Ireland, Germany, England, Italy, and Russia, and one of the four student quartets who will participate in the Masterclasses comes from the Royal Academy of Music in London.
With a packed programme of events planned and many top names from the world of music on the bill, the West Cork Chamber Music Festival is a truly global classical music event.
