25 places in Ireland have been shortlisted in a bid to be crowned the best place to vacation in Ireland. Members of the public have been nominating their favourite place to holiday since early March.
The list has a great mixture of different locations including some of Ireland’s beautiful islands, tourist towns, remote scenic spots as well as various stunning costal locations. Just some of the locations in the first short list are:
The cities of Cork, Dublin and Derry with Achill, Inis Meain, Inishbofin and Valentia representing the islands. Killarney and Dingle in Co. Kerry were unsurprisingly named along with Carherdaniel and Derrynane in Co. Kerry, as well as Dunmore East, Co Waterford; Gweedore, Co Donegal; Rosslare Strand, Co Wexford; and Strandhill, Co Sligo, all of which are well known beaches). The Shannon River, the Glen of Aherlow, Co Tipperary, and Boyle, Co Roscommon were named along with Beara Peninsula and Gougane Barra lake in Cork, which also featured.
Northern Ireland had Cushendall, Co Antrim, and the Fermanagh lakelands named.
The overall winner will be named on May 27th but first researchers will visit the locations and narrow the shortlist down further on May 20th. Check back with us to find out which place was named the best for Ireland vacations.
